Slightly sleep deprived

Breakfast this morning was a yummy and filling combo of a multi-grain English muffin with crunchy almond butter, banana, and raspberry preserves…simple and deelish!

I didn’t do too well going to sleep early last night! I was awake till probably 11:30 – not good when my alarm goes off at 6:00 every day. I really feel better with about 8 full hours of sleep. Maybe I’m just kidding myself, but I feel like I really have a renewed burst of energy late at night and I just can’t get sleepy until 11 or 11:30 – Maybe it is just procrastinating!! That is definitely my tendency in life!

Do you have tricks you use to make sure you get a good night’s sleep??

Gotta get moving to get to work – busy day today – conference call this morning, nutrition consults, then a health fair this afternoon. Have a great Friday!!

  1. Yes, I know what you mean… I also get up at 6, so know the problem. I guess it helps me to stick to a bedtime routine: have a cup of tea, watch some tv & brush my teeth and get into my PJ’s. It quickly brings on sleep! Oh, and no computer 30 minutes before I want to head off.

  2. Ack…yes, I wake up around 5 so need to make sure I am in bed by 10-ish!

At least it’s Friday and you can relax all weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I had one of those nights on Monday, when I didn’t fall asleep until 2 am!!! It was crazy. I have read that you shouldn’t watch tv during the last hour before you go to bed, instead you should read a book or do something else more relaxing. Also you could try drinking a glass of milk, which I’ve read can help you fall asleep. These are the tricks I try! Reading a book usually works for me.

  4. I can relate… I also often get a burst of energy sometime around 10… I stopped watching t.v. at night (it has only been a week) and so far no t.v. seems to have helped me to get to bed earlier. We’ll see if it lasts!

    Have a great Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I wish I had tips for getting a good night sleep. I think I’m more of a night person, I rarely get to sleep before midnight and have to get up at 7:00! Yet, I keep doing the same thing night after night!

Sounds like you have a busy day!

  6. I must read the comments here because I would LOVE to find a trick! For me, I have trouble falling asleep when I have yoga the next morning, because I get too excited to fall asleep!! How annoying is that?

The ONE thing that I have found that helps is putting a warmed-up magic/oat bag on my back. I fall asleep instantly when I do that, but definitely not in the summer…

  7. oh man, I know what you mean. I can’t seem to get to bed by 10:30 or 11, even though I’m pretty tired since there seems like many things to catch up on. My alarm goes off at 5:30, unless I do spin on fridays it’s at 5am, yikes! I think working out really helps me sleep like a baby at night, and of course just letting my mind relax and blocking thoughts out. If I think too much and am anxious I can’t sleep!

I have the same problem, Angie! When I was a teenager I was diagnosed as having a full-on sleep disorder, so I’ve learned a lot of things that can be helpful: always have a “going to bed” routine, go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, and don’t do anything in bed except than sleep and *ahem* other private things that happen in bed ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, if you’re exercising too close to your bedtime, sometimes it can get your energy revved up.

  9. yeah i need 8 hours too – 7 at least….
