I love these Kombucha drinks! I honestly don’t know if they are really super healthy or not, but I do love the taste and I always feel I’m having something healthy when I drink them. I usually sip on one bottle for a couple of days though. I love the gingerade flavor.
Half the bottle kept me energized all morning at work.
This morning I taught a Bariatric Surgery Nutrition Class. This class is the first pre-surgery education class that our patients take in preparation for gastric bypass, gastric banding, or gastric sleeve. I speak for about an hour on general nutrition for weight loss, and my colleague, Chad, speaks for about an hour on exercise. My part of the class is focused on long-term behavior change for weight loss and maintenance. As you know, many people lose weight by doing whatever popular ‘diet of the moment’ that they might try…but lasting weight loss really requires true behavior change that you can live with forever. Which to me, is much less strict than many “diets”. I talk about the basics of carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and water….with emphasis on small changes that they can make now, before surgery, that will help them to be successful long term. I’m always energized by teaching classes- I love seeing the spark in a patient’s eye when they “get it” and are really prepared to make some changes!
After class, lunch was my favorite HUGE salad to-go from the Ruby Tuesday’s salad bar during our wellness center staff meeting:
Piled high with:
- mixed greens + spinach
- grape tomatoes
- hard boiled egg
- edamame – lots!
- red onion
- green pepper
- pumpernickel croutons
- broccoli salad
- cucumber and onion salad
It was so good! I purposefully make my salads huge so that I have leftovers. I ate a little more than half and saved half for later today or tomorrow.
Tonight is our newlywed small group. After we have a quick dinner, we’re off to Tom and Anita’s. A few of you have asked what our newlywed small group is about. It is basically a group through our church designed to help newly married couples. Tom and Anita led a pre-marriage class that we attended last year before we got married and it was so helpful. We talked about issues through the class discussions that we hadn’t necessarily talked about before- and it really helped us to feel prepared for marriage- which was really important since neither Anthony nor I were super young- we had each lived independently for many years and I think it prepared us for the huge step of joining our lives. In our pre-marriage class, we used some study guides designed by Jeff and Debby McElroy, who have a great marriage/family ministry. It was such a good class- educational and funny – we loved it! So, now, we’re just continuing to work on ways to make our marriage strong- it is important to both of us and spending these few hours each week attending this group is an investment in our marriage.
Have a great Wednesday evening! Catch you later-I’m thinking dessert will be involved!
