Seafood Extravaganza

Hey everyone! Thanks again for all your nice comments! I hope you are all having a great week!

I started this morning bright and early with a nice bowl of Kashi Honey Sunshine with blueberries and Naturally More almond butter…it was a great way to fuel up for a busy day.

Anthony, my dad and I headed back out to the fishing boat….and this time…we made it on…and the great thing is they even gave us free tickets for today since we missed out yesterday.

Now, I am totally not a fishing and bait kind of girl…in fact, I had never been fishing before I met Anthony, but today was definitely an adventure. We headed out down the river and through the inlet…

The views were beautiful.

We left the dock at 8:30 and the trip out was about an hour and then we stopped and dropped our lines….now, I needed a little help…but I did okay. The sun was so bright, and even though I was covered in SPF 45, I was still getting a lot of sun. We fished for a while, and I ended up spending some time just exploring the boat. The captain’s dog hangs out on board and he was loving the view too.

I spent quite a bit of time on the upper deck which was nice and shady, while my dad and Anthony fished. The captain moved to several different spots, but no one was really catching much of anything. Anthony caught a few small fish right away, but they threw back anything less than 12 inches.

About halfway through the trip, there was some excitement as one of the deck hands caught a little shark….just a minute later, Anthony got a bite on his line and this is what he reeled in….

I’ll admit, I had mixed emotions about catching this shark…in fact a few nights ago, I watched a guy catch one on the pier, and I was freaking out making sure he threw it back in…but it was exciting today. I was proud of my husband. So, we  have some shark steaks in our freezer tonight.

So, after a long trip – and no fish for me or my dad, we finally made it back to dock at about 1:45 pm…we were starving. We stopped at a little sports cafe and I decided to stay with the seafood theme with a blackened tuna sandwich with fries…we were so hungry- this really hit the spot.

When we finally made it back to the condo, we were beat! Anthony and I showered and crawled into our cool bed for a nice nap!

Tonight, my family went to dinner and a fireworks show and we decided we wanted to move slowly, especially since our nap lasted until about 6:30- I love vacation! Anthony and I decided to take an adventure walk down to the closest pier – we think it was probably 3 -4 miles- it took us a little over an hour walking on the beach. We had a great simple dinner at the outdoor cafe at the pier. I started with a delicious strawberry pina colada… it so hit the spot.

And, for dinner- I was craving some salad- I had a garden salad and some peel-and-eat shrimp – YUM!

Our plan was to walk back to the condo after dinner, but we started seeing a lot of lightning, so my brother-in-law Dave drove to pick us up. So, now it is midnight…and I’m still wide awake, thanks to our long nap…luckily, I can sleep late tomorrow if I want.

I hope you’re having a great week!

  1. 1. Thought for a moment you were eating Cap N Crunch for breakfast, for the sake of the little ones. : -)
    2. That shark looks like a toy! If you don’t mind, will you let us know what shark taste like. Very curious, never had it before.
    3. All the seafood meals are making me hungry.

And last but not least… THANK YOU for posting throughout your trip. It’s been lots of fun reading your adventures.

  2. I’m glad the fishing trip worked out this time. And wow, that’s crazy that he caught a shark! What does it taste like?

  3. Wow, I can’t believe Anthony caught a shark!

Looks like you’re having such a nice time on your vacay! I’m loving all the photos 🙂

  4. WOW a shark!!! The dinner looks great, the shrimp is making me hungry again!

  5. So exciting! My brother and his friends are really into shark fishing for sport (they throw back about 90% of what they catch), mostly they just hang out and drink beer in the sun! I hear ya on the tanning through sunscreen. I have really fair skin and it seems the older I get the more sun sensitive I am- especially on the water with the reflection making the sun even more intense! I’m jealous of all your fruity drinks!
