Today was a perfect beach day. Anthony and I hung out under our umbrella on the beach almost all day.
We didn’t get up until about 8:30 this morning- after still being up at 2 am last night when there were major thunderstorms – we watched the lightning over the beach for over an hour and thunder was shaking our whole building. So, I didn’t get as much sleep as I’d like, but I made up for it with my lazy day today.
Breakfast was simple- two slices of whole wheat bread with almond butter and blueberry preserves and coffee.
After breakfast, I spent an hour playing with Owen in the water park- we went up and down the waterslides…over and over and over. Then I joined Anthony on the beach…here is our view…
I stayed under the umbrella with my t-shirt on almost all day- even with 45 and 50 SPF, I got a little too much sun over the last couple of days, so I tried to stay out of the sun as much as possible today…so I spent most of the day reading and people watching and just relaxing.
Lunch was a sandwich on whole-wheat with ham, turkey, provolone, and tomato and some cantaloupe….
Then – we headed right back out to the beach for the afternoon. Owen joined us for a while and did some digging with his dad.
And, Emma Kate took a nap with me in the shade while Owen and Amy and Dave played in the water.
After a very relaxing day…Nanna and Poppy stayed at the condo with the kids and Anthony and I went with Amy and Dave to Broadway at the Beach – a great shopping and dining complex- we had dinner at a great sushi/Japanese place – Anthony and I started with cucumber rolls and I had a glass of plum wine.
And then we shared a spicy tuna roll, buffalo shrimp roll (definitely different but good), shrimp tempura roll, and spider roll – all were delicious!
We walked around and window shopped a little, and then rode the Pirate Ship – do you remember this? We used to always ride this exact ride in an amusement park at this beach when we were kids…and several years ago, they demolished the old amusement park and moved some of the rides to this new shopping complex and called it the Pavilion Nostalgia Park- very cool – I got to see lots of amusements that I hadn’t seen since my childhood.
Our last stop of the night was Fat Tuesdays – I had a small frozen mudslide- delicious! I’ve had a few frozen drinks this week which I wouldn’t have on a regular basis because they are really high in calories- but vacations come around just about twice a year – and I believe in splurging within moderation. I think some people tend to go crazy and overeat drastically when on vacation and I definitely don’t recommend that. I think it is great to enjoy some special foods that you might not otherwise have…but still listen to your hunger and fullness cues and remember moderation.
Hope you’ve had a great night….it’s past my bedtime again…goodnight!
